The People Have Spoken!!! Congrats to President Elect, Barack Obama!!

About a month ago I was lucky enough to catch The Swell Season perform. The election was only one month away and there was an energy in the air that night that I've never felt before. An underlying feeling of unity and hope.

My favorite moment of the night was just before their final song. An impassioned Glen Hansard pleaded to the crowd to wake up on the morning of November 4th and go take a walk in nature, sit by a river, ask yourself what you should do, and then go vote for Obama! The crowd's applause was deafening! He then lead the entire crowd in a sing along version of what should have been Obama's campaign theme song, "People Get Ready."

'People Get Ready'

People all get ready
'Cos we're tearing down the man
Rebuild what's gone unsteady
And see it through with cleaner hands
And what has gone between us
Is a lot, is a lot...

God Put A Smile On Vegas' Face

July 19, 2008 - Las Vegas, MGM Grand Garden Arena
The band head out to a little square platform on the floor to play a dirty stripped down version of 'God Put A Smile Upon Your Face.'
Coldplay Roadie #42 describes it best in his 'blog #10'
"Will had arrived with a tiny electronic drum-pad setup that plays some glorious 808 drum-machine sounds. They kicked into ‘God Put A Smile’ and it was utterly transformed, becoming a tight, almost claustrophobic techno rendition. Jonny twisted a demented new guitar part out of his pink Jazzmaster, the lasers rolled around overhead and all around the arena jaws dropped. It had gone from being the least effective part of the show to a new highlight in mere moments. It’s the Coldplay way..."

Coldplay join the fans up in the "cheap seats"

The opening night of Coldplay's new tour was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. A definite highlight came with one of the simplest moments as the band jumped from the stage and ran the length of the Forum floor and up a back stairway to an aisle in "the cheap seats." Just a few feet away from me and the wife they performed a rearranged, gentle acoustic version of "Yellow" (see below). Then Chris handed the microphone over to drummer Will Champion who sang lead vocals on the brand new song, "Death Will Never Conquer". The two songs brought the group and audience together more than all the light and video trappings earlier in the evening. What an amazing show!
